The biggest fear of electric car drivers must be the fear of running out (FORO) – not only are the vehicles with longer ranges more expensive but with councils stalling on adding more charge points, it only exacerbates the uptake of these vehicles.
In a recent survey of more than 10 000 drivers by the AA, 76% said that EV’s can’t go far enough and there aren’t enough public charging points. Although Europe has now exceeded the 1M mark of EV sales ahead of the USA, the UK reported only moderate growth of EV car sales due to the choice of vehicles available.
Of course we would expect Tesla to top the list of vehicles with the longest range but all of this is about to change with some exciting and more affordable introductions from Kia and the e-Niro which can travel up to 282miles on a single charge and should be available from next month and of course the Hyundai Kona Electric expected later this year, with a range of 279 miles.
While Public Health England have called for more electric cars to tackle the problem of toxic air in cities, companies such as BP are embracing the challenge to help save the planet, combining their efforts by investing in companies such as Store-Dot who are developing rapid charge solutions and BP Chargemaster in delivering new charging points across the country daily.
